Earth - the foundation of our homes

In this first in the series we are discuss Earth Element. It represents stability and solidity and is the foundation on which all our homes are built, and on which everything rests.

Earth Element is represented by, amongst other things stones, shells, sand, clay, ceramics, granite, marble, crystals and brick, and if you are feeling overwhelmed or scattered it can help ground you (just put a pebble or a crystal in your pocket).

Earth’s influences, qualities and associations:

Each element has its own essential associations, including colours, shapes, tastes, smells, and body parts, which can be used to enhance its effects.

Colour:

As you’d expect, earth colours are brown, tan, beige, terracotta, soft oranges, burnt umber and dark apricots. These colours are warm and comforting, and are very good colours for bathrooms and bathroom accessories as they soak up excess water energy which can affect your emotions and your finacial well-being

Shapes

Earth shapes are long, low, stable square shapes., providing support and stability. Use these shapes in your furniture choices for areas requiring Earth element.

Tastes and scents

Alongside earthy scents and tastes, earth element is associated with floral and musk scents and tastes. Earth element feeds Wood element which is represented by plants therefore it makes sense that these scents are associated with Earth, despite the negative influence Wood has on Earth.

Influences in Feng Shui

Earth is used to provide stability to a home, assisting in quelling arguments and defusing unpleasant situations. It also provides support on which to build a life and it lays its soothing, calming, comforting blanket over everything it touches.
