Feng Shui Remedies: Metal
Metal - the most powerful element of all?
While all of the Feng Shui element are powerful, and particularly so when used in conjunction with each other, it could be argued that metal, and in particular moving metal, is the most powerful single element as just by itself it cuts through and disperses negative energy like an axe.
Each year every home will have at least two areas where they need metal, and very likely more. These guas are the same in every house and this year, the year of the Metal Ox (5 February 2021 to 4 February 2022) they are the South East Gua (the wealth and abundance area) and the North Gua (career and life’s journey gua.)
Next year (5 Feb 2022-4 Feb 2023) they will be the Centre Gua (self and health gua,) and the South-West Gua (love and marriage gua)
Metal’s influences, qualities and associations:
Each element has its own essential associations, including colours, shapes, tastes, smells, and body parts, which can be used to enhance its effects.
Metal element needs to be implemented in large-ish quantities (minimum 14 kg/30lbs) depending on the size of your house but is the only element that must be implemented physically and cannot be represented by a picture or a colour.
That being said, there are many ways that metal can be implemented - with items you already have in your home (cast iron pots and pans for instance), with metal furniture (clothes rails, tables, cupboards, chairs) or with your kitchen and laundry room appliances (fridge, freezer, dishwasher, blender, cutlery etc.)
Colour:
As you’d expect, metal colours are metallics - silver, gold, bronze etc however they are also white and pastel colours. As a general rule, the paler the colour, the more it represents metal. Colours to avoid are fire colours - reds, oranges, pinky purples, burgundy etc as these colour deplete the power of the metal (fire melts metal.)
Shapes
Metal shapes are ovals, arches and curves, shapes produced by metal and it contracts and melts therefore it is recommended that you use these shapes in areas requiring metal in your furniture, your artwork and your living space where possible.
Textures and influences
As you’d imagine, textures associated with metal are smooth and cool and metal energy can help with focus. That being said, too much metal can tip into overanalysis, overthinking, and second guessing, in which case reducing the amount of metal in a specific gua can help ease things.
Influences in Feng Shui
Metal element cuts through negativity, and is used to provide stability to a home, assisting in quelling arguments and defusing unpleasant situations. It also provides support on which to build a life and it lays its soothing, calming, comforting blanket over everything it touches.
